About the Alexander Technique

The challenges of modern life can so occupy your thoughts that you can forget about that most important consideration: yourself. The Alexander Technique is a practical self-help technique which teaches you how to use your body in your daily life.

In your lessons you will be taught through a combination of gentle “hands-on” and verbal guidance: this will help you to understand and change old patterns of posture and movement that cause stress and strain. By learning to stop the old habit, you can rediscover how to do everyday activities (sitting, standing, walking, driving a car, playing a musical instrument, singing, operating a computer etc) with less effort and more poise.

The Alexander Technique tackles the root causes of many conditions such as:

·        Neck and shoulder tension

·        Back pain

·        Stress

·        General fatigue

·        Voice and Breathing problems

·        Recovery from injury

Your movements, breathing and speaking can become easier, and you may feel more relaxed and confident.

The Alexander Technique is not manipulation, massage, or yoga-type exercise. There is no set programme: your progress will depend on your personal needs. However, you should expect to have at least five to twelve lessons.

"I feel somehow lighter and taller,........learning the Alexander Technique is a bit like riding a bicycle, it stays with you and is miraculous. You learn to use your thoughts to redirect your energy and not waste it; I feel more relaxed”.
